El Rodeo serves authentic burritos, tacos and other great Mexican dishes
El Rodeo is hidden in the alley at First Street and Norfolk Avenue. There isn’t much for a sign or visible marketing, except for the best kind: the large numbers of customers waiting in line for El Rodeo’s burrito.
You won’t find complimentary salsa, dip, chips, or fancy decorations— however there is only one thing everyone can agree on, this place serves authentic burritos, tacos and other great Mexican dishes. El Rodeo’s owner Manuel, says that after twenty-five years of being in business, the customers’ favorite is still the burrito.
The burrito at El Rodeo is a large meal in itself, stuffed with steak, chicken, or shrimp; a mixture of rice, lettuce and salsa. The salsa comes mixed right in, making this an authentic Mexican meal. But, if you like it hot then order an additional salsa for an extra 50 cents. There is something else not found in the burrito that makes this so popular. The consistency of being good all the time. This is what brings people back time and time again.
Also popular on the menu are the Tacos Asada. El Rodeo tacos are excellent—the spice is right, not too hot, and not too mild. A few other items from the menu include Tortas, Gyros, Quesadillas, Carne Asada (steak dinner), Arroz y Frijai (rice and beans), Fajita Mixta (mixed fajita - beef, chicken, and shrimp), Camarones a la Diabla (spicy shrimp dinner) and many other great menu items.
Even without a big sign on the main street, people in Norfolk know where to find a good burrito or taco dinner. Make sure you plan for a wait of 15 minutes or so. Every day for lunch or dinner, there’s a line out the door. Trust El Rodeo’s regulars to know, that gigantic burrito will be well worth the wait. It’s that good!
